What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a primary healthcare profession which focuses on restoring, preserving, and optimising health through non-invasive, natural hands-on care (without the use of drugs or surgery). Chiropractors specialize in the treatment of the neuro-musculoskeletal system (nervous system, joints and muscles) and the effects of these disorders on general health.

It is a gentle and natural form of care, treating the body holistically, enhancing the body’s own natural ability to heal and recover. Doctors of Chiropractic undergo a minimum 4-year full-time university education with an emphasis on neurology, diagnostic imaging, physiology, and spinal adjusting. As a registered member of the Chiropractic Association of Ireland, we adhere to a strict code of practice and standard of proficiency and undergo regular CPD training.

The word “chiropractic” comes from the Greek words cheir (hand) and praxis (to do) and simply means “to do by hand”. Most commonly patients seek help with back and neck pain, but your entire body works better with a properly functioning nervous system. Your nervous system is largely housed by your spine and skull. Trauma, stress and injury can disrupt those vital nerve signals within the body causing dis-ease and pain. Using a combination of joint mobilisation (adjusting), cranial and muscle release techniques, chiropractic aims to stimulate the affected areas through hands on treatment, thereby reducing the strain and allowing the body to heal. We use a broad range of diagnostic skills and are also trained to recommend therapeutic and rehabilitative exercises, as well as provide nutritional and lifestyle advice to our patients.

Your First Consultation

We understand that it takes courage to seek help and that you may be a little apprehensive about taking the first step. Our goal is to make you feel at home right from the start and to explain your care plan fully.

On arrival to The Be Well Clinic you will be greeted with a warm and friendly welcome. Prior to your consultation we will ask you to complete our patient forms, detailing your symptoms and health history.

The aim of the consultation is to get to know all about you, your current health issues and your future goals. We will take a complete medical history followed by a thorough physical examination. This normally includes orthopaedic, neurological, bio-mechanical, postural and range of motion testing. We will then explain your examination findings, your treatment plan and prognosis, and answer any questions you may have.

As well as receiving hands on treatment, you will be advised on home stretches and/or exercises, the application of ice or heat and on certain activities to avoid. Treatment at the Be Well Clinic is a partnership. We like to ensure that you are educated every step of the way and your feedback is encouraged throughout.
